Scared Dog Wakes Up Rescuer In Middle Of Night To Thank Her

Every now and then someone who saves a dog’s life experiences a moment that makes it all worthwhile.

For Kimberley Slown, that moment was Sunday night.

She brought home a battered dog named Niya from the Gibson County Animal Shelter in Trenton, Tennessee.

Abandoned by her former owner, the dog had completely shut down in her kennel. Slown, who has rescued hundreds of dogs through her organization, Arrow Dog Rescue, could see someone had hurt her.

Sweet Pup Abandoned In Parking Lot Howls For Days, Finally Gets Rescued

Every dog has its day, and thanks to some truly kind folks, one down-on-her-luck pup finally got hers.

A dog was abandoned in a Sam’s Club parking in Memphis, Tennessee in early December, as shown in the video above. The confused pooch stood there for days, howling as she desperately waited for her human to return. They never did.

“This is an area where animals are dumped,” Kimberly Slown, of Arrow Dog Rescue, an Illinois-based organization that recruits volunteers all over the country, told The Huffington Post. “Dogs often times will stay where they are dumped in the hopes that their family will be back for them,” she added.

Mary Murphy, who had successfully rescued a few Memphis-based dogs for Arrow Dog Rescue, was leaving Sam’s Club on December 9 before work when she spotted the dog peering into car windows. She found out from the Sam’s Club staff that she had been there for about a week.

Arrow Dog Rescue Volunteer Gear

Arrow Dog Rescue Volunteer Gear

Want to look official at our adoption events and fundraisers? Or maybe you just want to have a conversation starter with others so you can spread the word about Arrow Dog Rescue and our mission to save dogs that others leave behind? Maybe you just want a cool shirt…every dollar raised will go to the veterinary fund for the dogs of our rescue! Cool shirt:Cool cause WIN WIN!

Arrow Dog Rescue saves dogs of all kinds but we specialize in dogs who have severe medical and behavioral needs, the dogs other rescues don’t take. The hopeless cases. Dogs who have thousands of dollars in surgeries or medical expenses to get them well. Dogs who are feral, or have been abused by every human they have met. We don’t find dogs that will be adoptable. We rescue dogs and rehabilitate them until they are adoptable. This t-shirt campaign is meant to raise funds for those tough cases like Hank, Rose, and Remi.

There are two different shirts available, click on the pictures to get that shirt!

Surviving are her father, Roger S. Kolb, Bloomington; two brothers, Guy D. (Marcia) Kolb, Woodbridge, Va., and Roger S. (Donna) Kolb II, Willowbrook; a sister, Laura A. (Chuck) Bowen, Pekin; niece and nephews, Rachel (Bill) Murphy, AJ Bowen, Roger S. Kolb III and John W. She was preceded in death by her mother and her paternal and maternal grandparents.

Elsie graduated from Illinois State University and began her professional career as a medical technician at BroMenn and later worked in private research. After successfully obtaining another degree in programming at Illinois Central College, she began a long career at State Farm Insurance Cos., where she was an information technology project manager.

Elsie was passionate about her French bulldogs and took great pride in being able to foster rescued dogs throughout the years. A staunch supporter of Relay for Life, Elsie also enjoyed crafting, playing cards and board games. Perhaps most admirable, Elsie enjoyed nurturing personal relationships with friends and family, maintaining friendships over many years and many miles.
